What characters would you like to see on the show?
Please include as much about each character as you can... names, occupations, demeanor, etc.
Thanks!

I think the trans community should be represented, so here's my idea:
The character I'd like to see is a transgender named Mack (short for Mackenzie). Mack is a auto mechanic who owns hys own shop and employs another character on the show... not sure who that is or where that story line can go, but I think it would be a way of joining Mack to the rest of the group.
Mack is cool and calm, kind of stand-offish. Just kind of blends in to the world around hym. |

I like it... the problem is, we need a shop to shoot in.
Maybe we could get Ruben's garage that he works in for a location.
I like it though. Character one is in place! Woot! Woot!

HEY... for clarity's sake, OF COURSE I'm on-board with this. It sounds like a blast.
I love the idea of a transgendered character. It hasn't been done before and it could be very interesting.
I'd love to see characters that are a) believable in real life and b) haven't been done to death on other shows. Please no-overly queeny gay guys... I'm not saying they don't exist, I'm just saying we've already seen enough. Believably queeny, now that's another story.
Similarly, if you avoided the "dead-butch, unbelievably studly and just too-straight gay guy" (which we've also seen a million times), I wouldn't be crushed.
As far as our female characters go, I can only repeat myself. The "L Word" is a great show, but I really feel the producers went more for looks than they did for believability. Let's do something people can truly identify with.
Your thoughts? |

Agreed.
While some "stereotypes" will be hard to avoid... I think we need a fair representation of the gay community the way we see it.
For one thing, L Word is seriously devoid of an honest butch. (Though Shane is close -- the eye makeup is a big NO NO in the world of butches).
So a real live butch, would be great.
I think we should call her Sam (only b/c I love the name)! LOL
I think this is another reason why the writers HAVE to be both gay men and women or the honesty won't show through.
I'm gettin'g really excited about it!
I'm gonna go write up Sam' character description under characters now. _________________

The birth of Sam:
Sam (short for Samantha) is a classic butch.
Sam is single, kind of quiet and observant but has quite a temper when provoked. Sam is very close to her mother but her father was abusive to both her mother and herself and she has an unhealthy distrust of men.
Sam is fiercely loyal to her friends and a wiz with numbers. She recently took over her mother's accounting business. She likes the solitude of sitting in a room working with numbers and the honesty of numbers.
Sam has a habit of attracting straight women and in turn, getting chased by their boyfriends. _________________

Hey Packie!! Welcome to the forum! I totally agree about not having the overly butch straight gay guy and the overly queeny gay guy.
By the way, LOVED watching your movie!! It was great. |

Thanks, Jess! You know my particular feelings about the movie... but one thing that they did get totally right (and something that the critics loved) was that the two characters were - again - believably gay and not fashion models.
I also wholeheartedly agree regarding a believable butch... never been done before correctly. |

LOL -- well, I prefer average. I think people would like to see themselves on screen as opposed to fake people.
I know I would.

I like lookin' at real people. It annoys me that everyone on L Word is a size 2. Not that thay are horrible to look at. lol _________________

A running theme of the show could be that "average" people almost never have "average" lives.
One of the things I loved about "Brokeback Mountain" was that they actually let the Jack Twist character develop a paunch (gasp!) as he got older. Admittedly, Jake Gyllenhaal is a handsome guy... but this little touch helped ground the movie and make it believable.
Yes, sex definitely sells... but I think, given the current climate of gay cinema, that people would respond better to characters they can truly identify with. I'd love it if they found our characters attractive after getting to know them! |

I've been thinking about this for a while; how about a character (regardless if it's a male or female) that is a victim of homophobia, discrimination, and/or assault because of their sexual orientation.
We hear a lot of stories of how lesbian and gays are victims of hate crimes, but we don't see too much of it portrayed on the screen. Only after a notorious crime is reported (Matthew Shepard, Gwen Araujo), these crimes are taken seriously.
The character doesn't have to die, but we can see how the crime has affected the victim, and how they deal with it in their everyday life.
The L Word is great, but come on, no one in L.A. is a victim of a hate crime? They touched on it a bit with Max's employers homophobic position. I think they should have taken it a little deeper in his storyline. _________________ "She is severely fuckable, isn't she?"-

I love that!
That's definitely in.
This is EXACTLY why I wanted this to be a collaboration.

Cool. I'm happy that you like the idea. If I think of anything else, I'll let you know. I'm trying to think of story lines and character ideas resembling true life that people can identify with.
Did you ever see the documentary called "The Aggressives" on the Logo channel. Now, they were REAL characters. _________________ "She is severely fuckable, isn't she?"-

| I'd like to see a positive example of a bisexual woman, unlike Alice (yes I LOVE her, but she only dates women on the show, except for one dude who identified as a lesbian). She could be kind of bohemian, vegetarian, activist type who is a phone sex worker and comedy ensues... |
